This specific piece
The three variants share the same palette: a milky-translucent background with medium-intensity green chlorite inclusions and golden filaments of iron oxides appearing as warm veins among the green.
The 43×24 mm variant is the largest of the lot and best allows the pattern to be seen; the 35×24 mm has a more compact proportion that fits well in medium-sized pendants. All three are 4 mm thick, sufficient for standard closed bezel setting.
How moss agate inclusions are formed
Moss agate forms in cracks and cavities of igneous or sedimentary rocks. First, the base chalcedony crystallizes from a supersaturated silica solution.
For what mounting it works
-
Pendant with 925 silver bezel — The vertical teardrop shape is the most classic use of this mineral. The 0.8–1.0 mm bezel protects the lower apex, the most vulnerable point of the teardrop. The green of the agate contrasts very well with the silver of 925 silver.
-
Long finger ring with larger size (43×24) — The large size allows the full pattern to be seen in a ring; requires a bezel with a back plate or a 1.0 mm bezel reinforced by weight.
-
Organic wire wrap — The teardrop shape and moss green are the perfect combination for botanical-inspired wire wrap; 22 gauge in silver or brass adds warmth without competing with the green color.
Moss agate in lapidary tradition
Moss agate primarily comes from India, where it has been worked as a cabochon material for centuries. In ancient India, the combination of green and gold in this stone was associated with Buddha (Mercury) and the prosperity of the fields.
In crystal tradition, moss agate is associated with abundance, connection to the earth, and sustained growth. It is considered the stone of new beginnings and caring for what grows slowly.
The symbolic properties attributed to minerals belong to cultural and historical traditions. They are shared for educational purposes, not as medical advice.
How to recognize genuine moss agate
Genuine chlorite inclusions have three-dimensional depth: when tilting the stone, the green appears to float within the mineral. Imitations in colored green glass do not have a differentiated milky base and are too uniformly green.
Frequently asked questions
Is the green the color of the mineral or is it dye?
No detectable treatment. The green comes from chlorite inclusions, a silicate mineral that crystallizes naturally within the agate. The golden tones are intrinsic iron oxides.
How do I choose between the 3 sizes?
The 35×24 mm is the most versatile for a daily pendant. The 43×24 mm stands out more and is suitable for a statement piece. The 36×22 mm has a more slender silhouette. All three have the same thickness (4 mm) and the same type of bezel.
What are the exact dimensions of each variant?
Nominal: 36×22×4 mm, 35×24×4 mm and 43×24×4 mm respectively. Tolerance ±0.5 mm in any dimension.
Are these unique pieces or is there stock?
Each variant has one available specimen (the one photographed). The pattern of chlorite inclusions is distinct in each piece; what you see in the photo is what you receive.
What metal combination do you recommend?
925 silver highlights the green and white of the base. Brass or golden copper complement the golden iron oxide filaments. Both options work well; the choice depends on the tone you want to emphasize.
How to care for it?
Warm water, mild soap, dry thoroughly. Consult the jewelry and mineral care guide.
