This specific piece

Charoite is one of the few stones in the world with a single confirmed geographical origin: the deposit in the Chara River basin, in the Republic of Yakutia, Eastern Siberia. The freeform cabochon follows the natural geometry of the fragment, revealing the violet swirling pattern that distinguishes this species from any other mineral.

With 5–6 Mohs, charoite is durable enough for use in jewelry.

How charoite's pattern is formed

Charoite's swirling pattern is the result of an unusual metamorphic formation: the rock underwent extreme pressures and temperatures that aligned the mineral's acicular crystals in curved, parallel bands. The violet color comes from manganese in the phyllosilicate structure. The combination of a rare mineral plus extreme formation conditions makes charoite unrepeatable in the mineral world.

Charoite in lapidary tradition

Charoite was scientifically described in 1978 by Soviet mineralogists Vera and Yuri Rogov. Despite its recent description in Western scientific literature, Siberian lapidaries had known about it for decades prior. In contemporary lapidary tradition, it is valued as one of the few truly rare stones — with a single-source species and unique worldwide origin.

It is associated with transformation and profound change.

The symbolic properties attributed to minerals belong to cultural and historical traditions. They are shared for educational purposes, not as medical advice.
