This specific piece

The bi-metallic contrast between dark copper and golden brass creates a frame that complements the cool palette of the larimar without competing with it — the blue of the stone remains the focal point. Each wire filament was placed by hand, so the design cannot be replicated exactly.

Larimar varies in tone even within the same vein: some cabochons lean towards turquoise, others towards greenish blue or pale sky blue. The veining pattern of this piece defines its unique visual character.

Larimar in Lapidary Tradition

Officially discovered in 1974 by Dominican geologist Miguel Méndez and American Peace Love, Larimar exists in only one place on Earth: the Dominican Central Mountain Range, near Barahona. Its name combines "Larissa" (Méndez's daughter) with mar (sea). Geologically, it is blue volcanic pectolite, whose color comes from the partial replacement of calcium by copper in the silicate structure — an extraordinarily specific geological process. In crystal tradition, Larimar is associated with serenity and calm communication.

The symbolic properties attributed to minerals belong to cultural and historical traditions. They are shared for educational purposes, not as medical advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Larimar only exist in the Dominican Republic?

The specific geological combination of volcanism with copper replacement that produces blue pectolite occurs only in that area. All worldwide supply of Larimar comes from the same mine in the Dominican Central Mountain Range.

What is the hardness of Larimar and how should the ring be cared for?

Mohs 4.5-5, one of the most delicate minerals in jewelry. Avoid impacts, scratches, and contact with acids. Do not clean with ultrasound. Store in an individual case.

Can Larimar stain with use?

Larimar is porous and can absorb oils and creams. Apply cosmetics before putting on the ring and clean it with a soft cloth after each use.

Is the stone dyed?

No detectable treatment. The blue of Larimar is its natural color, originated by the presence of copper in the crystal structure. No formal gemological certification.

How to care for the ring's metals?

Oxidized copper and brass can be polished with a microfiber cloth. Avoid water, soap, and abrasive cleaners. More information in jewelry care.
