This specific piece

Sapphire and ruby are the same mineral species — corundum — differentiated only by the trace metals that produce the color: blue sapphire contains titanium and iron; ruby contains chromium. This mineralogical identity makes them two stones of identical hardness and structure with opposite colors.

In this ring, the crystal maintains its uncut hexagonal terminations, integrated into the handmade copper band. The selected ES size determines the internal diameter of the band and the crystal assigned to that size.

Sapphire in lapidary tradition

Sapphire — from the Greek sappheiros — was the favorite mineral of medieval Persian scribes, who ground it to make ultramarine blue pigment. In medieval Europe, it was set in episcopal rings as a symbol of wisdom and authority. In the Renaissance, lapidaries considered it the mineral that represented the sky — due to its color and hardness. Tradition associates it with clarity of thought and fidelity.

The symbolic properties attributed to minerals belong to cultural and historical traditions. They are shared for educational purposes, not as medical advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is it genuine or synthetic sapphire?

The sapphire is natural in its unprocessed crystalline form. No detectable treatment based on lapidary observation — the piece does not include formal gemological certification. Synthetic sapphire has a more uniform color distribution and absence of natural inclusions.

How do I choose the correct size?

The ES size is equivalent to the internal diameter in millimeters. Consult our size chart. Tolerances in handmade bands are ±0.5 mm with respect to the indicated size.

Can copper stain skin?

Copper can leave a slight green mark with prolonged use — a natural chemical reaction. It can be removed with soap and water.

Is each crystal different?

Yes. Each variant has an individual crystal with its own hue and terminations. The image is representative of the crystal type.

How do I care for this ring?

Store away from moisture and chemical products. Copper may develop a patina over time. See jewelry care guide.
