Most commercial rose quartz is milky or at most translucent; this specimen belongs to the high-clarity quartz group, where the crystal lattice allows light to pass through with little dispersion. In full natural light, the teardrop oscillates between pale pink and almost colorless depending on the angle of incidence, with an internal flash when light passes through it from the side.
The copper butterfly embraces the top of the stone with its wings spread in textured relief. The electroforming process causes the metal to grow around the mineral without conventional soldering — the bond between copper and quartz is structural, developed during the process itself.

In electroforming, the stone acts as the core of an electrolytic process: submerged in a copper sulfate solution and connected to a low-voltage circuit, the metal deposits on its surface layer by layer for hours.
