This specific piece

Unlike the massive varieties of rose quartz, the stone in this piece has marked transparency: under direct light, the crystalline growth planes and internal fractures are clearly visible, tracing diagonal lines within the stone. The color is very pale pink, almost colorless, with white flashes in the more vitreous areas.

The copper butterfly at the top completes the set with its outstretched wings and molded relief body. The contrast between the transparency of the stone and the matte opacity of the electroformed copper is the most characteristic visual feature of this piece.

Copper electroforming

This piece is made using electroforming: electrolytic copper is deposited layer by layer onto a mold to build a continuous setting that precisely embraces the stone. Butterfly, bezel, and hanging ring form a single object, with the matte granular texture characteristic of the process.

Rose quartz in lapidary tradition

Rose quartz has been used in jewelry and carved objects since Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Semi-transparent varieties like the one in this piece form in granitic pegmatites with slow crystal growth, which allows for some transparency and visible internal structure.

In crystal tradition, rose quartz is associated with affection, tenderness, and inner calm. Its presence in almost all ancient cultures makes it one of the minerals with the most documented history of symbolic use.

The symbolic properties attributed to minerals belong to cultural and historical traditions. They are shared for educational purposes, not as medical advice.

Care for electroformed copper

Copper can develop a green patina (verdigris) in contact with skin or in humid environments. Store in a zip bag, remove before showering, and clean with a dry cloth. See jewelry care guide.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there lines visible inside the quartz?

The visible lines are crystalline growth planes and natural internal fractures of the quartz. These are intrinsic features of the stone and do not indicate a quality defect: they confirm that it is mineral quartz with a visible internal structure, without treatment.

Is the rose quartz in this piece treated or dyed?

No detectable treatment. The pale color and transparency are natural characteristics of this variety. Highly transparent rose quartz is less common than massive varieties, which gives this stone a distinctive character.

How do you care for rose quartz?

Clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to intense direct sunlight. See the jewelry care guide.
