This specific piece
The peach-gray palette of this adularia is warmer than classic white-blue adularia. The shimmer is blue-golden depending on the angle of light. The freeform of each cabochon reflects the orientation of the adularescence plane: the lapidary orients the dome to maximize the silky effect on the vertical axis. Lot no. 2 contains more varied silhouettes proportionally than no. 1.
For which setting does it work
-
Adaptive bezel in 925 silver — The freeform fits well in adaptive bezels or pebble-type settings; the piece must have good overhead light to show the shimmer.
-
Statement rings — Medium sizes (17-26 mm) work as a main focal point.
-
Wire wrap — Compatible; the wire must leave the dome exposed for the adularescence to be visible.
Moonstone in lapidary tradition
Adularia takes its name from the Gotthard Massif (Switzerland), where it was extracted since the 18th century. In India, moonstone has been valued for centuries as a sacred gem associated with the lunar deity Chandra; India is today the main producer of adularia with lapidary quality adularescence.
In crystal tradition, peach moonstone is associated with emotional warmth and creative openness — the stone of the intuitive artisan, who works more from feeling than from pre-sketching.
The symbolic properties attributed to minerals belong to cultural traditions. They are shared for educational purposes, not as medical advice.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is adularescence?
Adularescence is the optical effect that gives moonstone its silky sheen: light diffracted between alternating layers of orthoclase and albite that generates a moving cloud of light on the surface.
Are the pieces calibrated?
No. They are freeforms not industrially calibrated. Each variant indicates its approximate dimensions (±0.5 mm); the silhouette is irregular, which makes them unique.
Is it treated?
No detectable treatment. The color and shimmer are natural properties of the mineral. No formal gemological certification.
Is this the same adularia as rainbow moonstone?
No. "Rainbow moonstone" is labradorite from India with multicolored schiller. This adularia (orthoclase) has a blue shimmer on a peach-gray background, mineralogically different.
How to care for it?
Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and impacts: adularia has perfect cleavage in two planes. Clean with a soft cloth. More in our care guide.
