Even if at first glance it seems to be solid black this crystal is translucent once you have him in direct sunlight.
The white deposits you cand see on some of its points and body is white clay, a normal deposit as these crystals usually grow in a clay rich environment.
It has a very small chip on the points but the hollowed out parts are contact points with other crystals that separated at one point in time and self healed.
One of the points is half missing its point because of a contact point with other crystal.
Morion Quartz is a very dark variety of Smoky Quartz and that means that if you shine a powerful light source through some of the black quartz crystals you would see it's translucency.
This specimen is deep black and densely included but if you shine a light through it you will be marveled by it's lovely brown color around the edges.
These crystals have a 5 sided face on at least one of the termination faces.
This five sided face usually, but not always has perfect symmetry

Quartz is the most abundant single mineral on earth. It makes up about 12% of the earth's crust, occurring in a wide variety of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks.
A smoky-gray, brown to black variety of quartz that owes its color to gamma irradiation and the presence of traces of aluminum built into its crystal lattice
The (German) name Morion is used for black Smoky Quartz.
Smoky quartz shows many different habits and crystallographic forms, but needle-like crystals of smoky color are not known.
Crystals that grew at relatively high temperatures, in particular macromosaic quartz crystals like those found in pegmatites and alpine-type fissures are often evenly colored, whereas crystals from other environments often show a color zonation in the form of multiple phantoms. In scepters and skeleton quartz, the color may be more intense along the edges of the crystal.
