Jet – Properties, Meaning, and Uses
Anima Mundi Crystals
Jet is an organic gemstone of fossilized plant origin—high-quality lignite—with a deep black color, resinous luster, and low density (1.19–1.35 g/cm³). It forms from conifer wood (primarily Araucaria) subjected to pressure and temperature for tens of millions of years. It is one of the few completely black and lightweight gemstones, and it served as a protective amulet and mourning jewelry in Europe for centuries. The world's leading deposits are in Asturias (Spain) and Whitby (Yorkshire, UK).
